Is Biologique Recherche P50 Magic Potion In A Bottle?

In the moment when I really didn’t need another beauty product that is going to end up sitting on my shelve, thanks to Victoria Beckham in first place I got introduced to Biologique Recherche and P50. Chill, not that Vicky is my friend and she personally recommended it to me (oh, how I wish), I saw it on her insta-stories and I couldn’t help but wonder – could this product that promises to change skin completely be my holy grail as well? I mean, if Vicky recommends it I am all in. So you are all wondering if it works, that is the question now. Well, keep reading to find out why I am on my second bottle.

While looking up the information about ingredients on our holy Internet, I couldn’t stop laughing when I read that people that people call it “Jesus in a bottle”. Is it really that good? Yes it is, truly. It is the best effin beauty product I have ever used and put on my face. Seriously. But, among the ingredients there is one really controversial – phenol. Original P50 was created in 1970 and that one contains phenol – or phenolic acid, mildly acidic compound with antiseptic properties, that is not really good for you. Phenol is also an unpopular ingredient as it is used an embalming fluid – it helps to preserve corpses. For all of the reasons listed above, phenol is forbidden in EU and Canada, so P50 had to be reformulated. Now we have P50, the closest one that you will get to the original formulation without the phenol, P50 W for the most sensitive complexions, P50 V – ideal for skin in need of plumping and toning and P50 PIGM 400 – for brightening and dark spot-diminishing.

Ingredients are: Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Niacinamide, Vinegar (Acetum), Ethoxydiglycol, Magnesium Chloride, Lactic Acid, Arctium Lappa Root Extract, Salicylic Acid, Sodium Bonzoate, Sulfur.

P50 is a magic potion that does it all. Exfoliates, hydrates, and balances the pH of the skin, it’s a prep step before any skincare.  Oh yes, this product smells really vinegary, it is really bad – without exaggeration. No question since it contains vinegar, horseradish, onion and thyme extracts – imagine how that smells altogether? But, you will get used to it quickly, really. Also, who needs a perfume added to skincare – I would rather have a smelly product that works great.

I started to use P50 in November after my first visit to Biologique Recherche and as I have sensitive skin, I was recommended to start with P50 W, for the most sensitive skin. And I am glad that I had listened, because I initially wanted to get P50, I can’t imagine how my breakouts would look like if I really got the original formula. My skin also reacted to this one, it was noting really bad, but the purging period was something that I had to overcome. If I was going to be patient, I was promised a better skin. So I had to be persistent, patient and wait for miracle to happen.

Aaaand finally Ivana, did it work? Wait, I have to tell you everything. First of all you have to use it correctly, twice a day (morning and night) – all over the face, neck and cleavage. The first week it is recommended to saturate moistened cotton pads with P50 and apply to the face, neck and cleavage by patting. Afterwards, you can saturate dry cotton pads with the lotion. Don’t apply P50 (or anything else) with wiping motion, because it can be too aggressive and therefore irritating to skin. My initial reaction was tingling and redness in certain areas, but nothing too bad – but what happened the next morning was amazing – my skin was more radiant, smother, clearer, pores almost nonexistent and the best, my skin was more hydrated. Since the day one – I am hooked. Now, I am in the place where I am walking around without makeup since my skin is brighter, my scars and discoloration are almost completely gone and save the best for last, I am not breaking out that often and my pores don’t get clogged and that was my main issue – because I would pop them and the result was inflammation and scarring. Now, even if I get a pimple or a comedone, P50 will take care of that really fast.

P50 is the part of the cult, luxury brand – therefore it is really hard to find one and the price of Biologique product is not exactly affordable. But, there is a big but here coming – true, BR products are expensive (but in the same range as Sisley or Estee Lauder), but the small amount of product goes long the way. Conclusion? They will last you for a long time. For an example – my 150ml P50 had survived from late November to late March. So, it is the price that is definitely worth to pay since it will completely change your skin to better.
